"View through Albritton Tower"
Texas Aggie Artist, Benjamin Knox '90, created the art of the Academic Building (completed in 1914) seen through the Albritton Tower (completed in 1984). The tower is 138 feet tall and contains 49 carillon bells that were cast in France. The bells ring every quarter hour and are programmed to play seasonal music or the "Spirit of Aggieland" after home football game victories. The Academic building is one of the oldest and most prominent buildings situated in the center of the Texas A&M University Campus. As the campus grew westward, there was a necessity to architecturally connect the central campus to the new growth. The Albritton Tower opening visually connects the buildings and acts as a conduit to the western campus.
